ISO 26000 - Social responsibility
Implementing ISO 26000 in your organization is a strategic step toward sustainable development and social responsibility.
WHAT IS ISO 26000?
ISO 26000 is a guiding standard that can be integrated into your organization’s existing processes. It provides recommendations on Social Responsibility (SR) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The standard helps companies and organizations act ethically and sustainably by taking responsibility for the impact their decisions and activities have on society and the environment.
ISO 26000 FOR A SUSTAINABLE ORGANIZATION
Adopting ISO 26000 offers an excellent framework with guidelines for both your own operations and the supply chain. By implementing ISO 26000, organizations can demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility, building trust among customers, employees, and other stakeholders. The standard helps integrate social responsibility into every part of the organization.
CORE PRINCIPLES OF ISO 26000
The standard outlines seven core principles that should guide your organization:
- Accountability
- Transparency
- Ethical behavior
- Respect for stakeholder interests
- Respect for the law
- Compliance with international norms of behavior
- Respect for human rights
Seven core subjects are identified where companies and organizations can focus their efforts:
- Organizational governance
- Human rights
- Labor practices
- The environment
- Fair operating practices
- Consumer issues
- Community involvement and development
By working with these areas, your organization can determine which specific issues are most relevant to your operations and stakeholders.
WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR ISO 26000?
ISO 26000 is a guiding standard, meaning it offers recommendations rather than specific requirements. Certification is not possible for ISO 26000. Instead, verification is conducted according to SIS/TS 2:2021. The organization carries out a self-declaration demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility, including management’s statement and the organization’s responses to the questions in SIS/TS 2:2021, which is based on SS-EN ISO 26000:2021 Guidelines for Social Responsibility. The verification against SIS/TS 2:2021 is conducted non-accredited.
